Lahore Divided into 40 Red Zones for Basant

Final preparations for celebrating the Basant festival in Lahore are under way, with authorities designating 40 locations as Red Zones to ensure public safety, reported 24NewsHD on Monday.

The Lahore police have finalised a comprehensive security plan and formed joint teams of police and traffic wardens to manage law and order during the festivities.

The Red Zones were identified due to past incidents of fatalities linked to kite flying.

Police officials said that special permissions will be required for the transportation of kites and strings. Citizens will also be allowed to install protective barriers on motorcycles to prevent injuries from sharp kite strings.

At present, kite flying remains completely banned. Authorities clarified that it will only be permitted after the Punjab government issues an official notification.

To ensure strict enforcement, CCTV cameras installed in Safe City zones will be used for round-the-clock monitoring, officials added.

The measures aim to allow a controlled celebration of Basant while minimising risks to public safety.
