Abbasi said the Safety Department has been upgraded to a directorate, leading to a reduction in accident rates from 0.09 percent to 0.04 percent. He stated that no serious railway accident has occurred since the directorate was established.

He said Rawalpindi has been developed as the country’s first smart railway station, with cameras and a security system installed. Other major stations will be upgraded under the smart station project in 2026, and cameras will also be installed inside trains.

The minister said eight train rakes were upgraded in eight months, including Shalimar, Pak Business, Lasani and Faiz Ahmed Faiz trains. He added that all trains will be upgraded by December 2026.

He said railway operations have been digitized, staff attendance has been computerized, and station facilities including ATMs, ticket vending machines and POS systems have been installed at major stations.
