At least 28 residents were bitten by a dog in the Korangi Juma Goth area of Karachi, local health officials have confirmed.
Dr. Aftab of Gohar Trust Hospital said that over the past four days, 28 patients have reported to the facility with dog-bite wounds. According to the victims, all of them were attacked by the same dog, and each belongs to the same locality within Juma Goth.
The incident has raised concern among area residents about stray and potentially rabid dogs.
Karachi is grappling with a severe rise in stray dog attacks, with 19 deaths and nearly 29,000 bite cases reported so far in 2025. Several neighborhoods have seen daily incidents, creating fear among residents and putting heavy pressure on hospitals, which are treating hundreds of patients each day.
Health officials warn that rabies is deadly once symptoms appear and link the growing problem to poor waste management, which helps stray dogs multiply.
Doctors stress that immediate wound cleaning and timely vaccination can prevent fatalities, while residents are urging authorities to implement effective shelter, vaccination, and sanitation measures to curb the crisis.
