LGH to Introduce Kidney Stone Treatment Without Surgery

Lahore General Hospital is set to introduce Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery (RIRS), a modern technique for the treatment of kidney stones, hospital officials announced.

Ameer-ud-Din Medical College Principal Prof. Dr. Muhammad Farooq Afzal shared the update while speaking at a one-day workshop on advanced urological procedures held at the hospital.

He said the new technique allows doctors to remove kidney stones without making surgical incisions, using laser and endoscopic technology.

According to Prof. Afzal, the procedure significantly shortens recovery time, with most patients able to return home within 24 hours. He said the hospital aims to adopt advanced medical technologies to improve patient care and outcomes.

The workshop was organized by the Urology Department of Lahore General Hospital and supervised by Associate Professor Dr. Kamran Zaidi. It included hands-on training sessions for urologists.

Senior trainers provided practical guidance on modern endoscopic equipment and laser-based stone removal techniques. Consultants and postgraduate doctors from across the country attended the session, calling it an important development for public-sector urology services.

Hospital officials said efforts are underway to upgrade medical facilities and introduce advanced treatment methods across departments.
