Opening Date Announced for Shaheen Chowk Underpass

The interior minister on Monday announced that the Shaheen Chowk underpass will soon be opened for regular traffic, marking a major step toward easing congestion in Islamabad.

During an early-morning visit to the project site, Mohsin Naqvi said the underpass will open for normal traffic on December 31, 2025, according to a report by 24News.

The minister inspected the ongoing finishing and carpeting work and reviewed horticulture and landscaping arrangements around the project. He directed the authorities to plant more trees in the surrounding area to improve the overall environment.

Naqvi said the Shaheen Chowk underpass would permanently address long-standing traffic issues in the federal capital. He added that the project would significantly ease commuting and help reduce daily traffic congestion for residents.

During the visit, the chairman of the Capital Development Authority briefed the interior minister on the progress and final stages of the project. Senior officials, including the CDA chairman, the inspector general of police for Islamabad, the CDA member engineering, and other relevant officers, were also present.
