Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood etched his name into the record books by registering the fastest double century in Pakistan’s first-class cricket history.
Representing Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) against Sahir Associates in the opening fixture of Round One of the President’s Trophy Grade-I 2025–26, Masood reached the 200-run mark in just 177 deliveries at the National Bank Sports Complex on Sunday.
With this effort, the left-hander eclipsed the long-standing national record of Inzamam-ul-Haq, who had brought up a double ton in 188 balls during a first-class tour match against Oxford and Cambridge University in 1992.
Masood’s knock also became the quickest first-class double century ever scored on Pakistani soil, bettering Virender Sehwag’s 182-ball effort from the 2006 Lahore Test.
By stumps on day one, Masood was unbeaten on 212 from 185 balls, putting SNGPL firmly in control of the contest.
SNGPL made a steady start after opting to bat first, as Azan Awais and Ali Zaryab added 53 runs for the opening stand. Azan was dismissed for 26 off 68 balls, having struck four boundaries, with Bilawal providing the breakthrough.
Masood then joined Ali Zaryab at the crease, and the duo unleashed a relentless assault on the Sahir Associates bowling attack. Their massive partnership turned the game decisively in SNGPL’s favour.
The stand eventually ended when Mohammad Hasnain removed Zaryab, who narrowly missed out on a double century. The right-hander scored a superb 192 off 237 deliveries, laced with 27 fours and four sixes.
Masood, however, stayed put to complete a landmark innings, finishing the day on 212 not out, which included 18 fours and two sixes.
At the close of play on the first day, SNGPL were cruising at 460 for 2 in 82.1 overs, with Omair Bin Yousuf unbeaten on five off 15 balls, having struck one boundary.
