Irregularities Worth Billions Reported in Sindh Solar Energy Project

The Senate Standing Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Senator Saifullah Abro, reportedly uncovered massive irregularities in a Rs. 27 billion solar energy project in Sindh.

During the meeting, officials from the Planning Division Sindh reportedly presented evidence of significant corruption in the project, which had been implemented under the supervision of various NGOs.

The project, aimed at providing solar panels to underprivileged communities, reportedly faced large-scale irregularities at multiple levels of execution.

Officials reportedly noted that two inquiries had already been conducted, confirming the misuse of funds and manipulation in project implementation.

According to reports, solar panels that were supposed to cost Rs. 21,000 each were being purchased for as much as Rs. 60,000, suggesting deliberate profiteering and favoritism in awarding contracts.

Senator Kamal Ali Agha reportedly condemned the misuse of public funds, stating that “taking money meant for the poor is a grave injustice and a serious crime.”

Senator Saifullah Abro added that the selection of NGOs for the project had reportedly been carried out without a proper tender process, and funds were distributed to select individuals as part of a pre-planned scheme to benefit certain people.

The Standing Committee reportedly directed that the Secretary be summoned again in the next session with all records and documentation related to the project to ensure accountability and further investigation.
