OGDCL Announces Major Oil and Gas Discovery in KP

Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a significant oil and gas discovery at its Baragzai X-01 (Slant) exploratory well, located in the Nashpa Block, District Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to a notice sent to the Pakistan Stock Exchange and London Stock Exchange, OGDCL, which operates the Nashpa Exploration License with a 65% working interest, made the discovery in partnership with Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), holding 30% and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) with a 5% carried interest.

The discovery was made in the Datta Formation (Jurassic age) during a cased-hole Drill Stem Test (DST-02), where the well produced 4,100 barrels of oil per day and 10.5 million standard cubic feet of gas per day at a 32/64″ choke size, with a wellhead flowing pressure of 3,880 psig.

Baragzai X-01 (Slant) was spud-in on December 30, 2024, and drilled to a total depth of 5,170 meters into the Kingriali Formation. The well encountered approximately 187 meters of Datta Formation, and the discovery was confirmed through strong hydrocarbon shows during drilling, petrophysical evaluation, and fracture indications on image logs. An earlier test in the Kingriali Formation (Triassic age) at the same well had also resulted in a successful discovery.

OGDCL stated that this new oil and gas find will help bridge Pakistan’s energy supply-demand gap by adding to the country’s indigenous hydrocarbon reserves. The company emphasized that the discovery will benefit OGDCL, its joint venture partners, and the nation as a whole.
