Pakistan T20I Series to Help ‘Rebuild Sri Lanka’

Sri Lanka Cricket has dedicated the upcoming home T20I series of its men’s team against Pakistan to the “Rebuilding Sri Lanka” initiative.

The decision was taken by the Sri Lanka Executive Committee, headed by Shammi Silva, as part of the board’s commitment to support government-led recovery efforts following the devastation caused by the Ditwah Cyclone.

According to reports, Sri Lanka Cricket will take several measures during the series to raise awareness about the initiative. The board will also promote the #VisitSriLanka hashtag at match venues to highlight the country as a global tourism destination.

In addition, it has announced that profits generated from the home series against Pakistan will be donated to the federal government’s recovery programme.

The three-match T20I series between Sri Lanka and Pakistan will be played on January 7, 9, and 11.

The series will also serve as an important preparatory phase for both teams ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.

Pakistan, placed in Group A, will open their World Cup campaign against the Netherlands on February 7, while Sri Lanka, slotted in Group B, will begin their journey on February 8 against Ireland.

The two teams last met in the T20I format during the Pakistan-hosted tri-nation series in November, which also featured Zimbabwe. Pakistan won the tournament by defeating Sri Lanka in the final.
