PCB Claims Karachi Stadium Will Be Even Better Than Gaddafi Stadium

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has set its sights on turning Karachi’s National Stadium into the country’s undisputed premier cricket venue.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi declared that the upgraded ground will be even better than Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.

Speaking to reporters in Karachi, Naqvi said the board’s vision is to make the city’s historic stadium the flagship of Pakistan cricket and a central pillar of the country’s bid to host a future ICC Women’s World Cup.

Calling the prospect of staging the tournament in Pakistan a “great honor,” he made it clear that a world-class Karachi venue is a crucial part of that ambition.

The transformation of the National Stadium is anchored in a major development plan worth roughly Rs. 4 billion. Under this project, the PCB has entered into an agreement with National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK) to build a new state-of-the-art enclosure at the ground.

Concept designs of the revamped enclosure show a completely rethought seating layout aimed at giving spectators clearer, more comfortable views of the action, addressing long-standing issues with sightlines at the venue.

Equally important, the stadium’s access routes are being redesigned to improve entry and exit, reduce bottlenecks, and make high-attendance match days safer and smoother for fans.

Naqvi said actual construction work at the National Stadium is scheduled to begin after the conclusion of the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) season.

While Karachi sits at the center of this plan, Naqvi underlined that the PCB is also pursuing other infrastructure projects. He confirmed that the board is working on the construction of a new stadium in Hyderabad and is looking to improve cricket grounds across the country.

On the international front, Naqvi reiterated that any talks with India’s cricket authorities will take place only on equal terms, insisting that Pakistan’s stance on parity in discussions remains unchanged.
