Businessman Arif Habib on Thursday said his priority is to make Pakistan International Airlines a profitable airline and linked job security at PIA directly to employee performance.
Habib spoke to the media during the PCB Inter-School Final held at Naya Nazimabad. He said PIA’s employees played a key role in the airline’s earlier success and remain central to its future operations.
He said PIA will provide job security to employees but clarified that continued employment will depend on performance. He said employees who deliver results will remain with the airline.
Habib said existing agreements do not allow authorities to change the airline’s name. He said more than 14 million Pakistanis live abroad and that over 70 million people in Pakistan depend on the airline. He said authorities will encourage Pakistanis to travel with PIA and said the airline will give priority to Hajj and Umrah operations.
He said PIA also plans to revive its sports activities, adding that restoring sports at the airline will take time and form part of its long-term plans.
Habib praised the Pakistan Cricket Board for selecting Naya Nazimabad as the venue for school cricket matches and called it a positive step for youth sports.
