The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2027 opening ceremony is planned to be held at the new Islamabad stadium, according to the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
CDA Islamabad said its main focus is to host the PSL 2027 opening ceremony at the venue. The authority also confirmed that PSL 2027 matches are planned to be played at the same stadium.
According to CDA, construction of the new Islamabad stadium is expected to be completed this year. The stadium is being developed to become a major venue for national cricket events, including PSL matches.
Earlier, during a meeting, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi had requested the final design of the cricket stadium in Islamabad.
According to details previously reported, the stadium will be located near Sector D-12 at the foothills of the Margalla Hills and is expected to have a seating capacity of approximately 32,000 spectators.
The stadium will feature a three-tier design. The lower tier will be for general spectators, the middle tier for VIP and premium seating, and the upper tier will offer shaded seating.
One of the key features under consideration is a Ring of Fire LED lighting system, similar to the one used at the Dubai International Stadium.
CDA is also reviewing different roofing options, including tensile fabric roofs like those at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, semi-transparent steel and polycarbonate roofs used at Lord’s and the Sydney Cricket Ground and retractable roof systems seen at Wembley and Marvel Stadium.
The project is a joint venture between CDA and the PCB. Under the proposed plan, CDA will lease about 280 kanals of land on a long-term basis, with revenue sharing set at 70:30 in favor of the PCB.
