The Karachi South Consumer Protection Court has ruled in favor of a consumer in a case involving a refrigerator sold with a lifetime warranty that developed defects within a short period.
The court accepted a complaint filed against a private company and ordered it to pay Rs. 200,000 in compensation for selling a defective appliance. The court also directed the company to pay Rs. 50,000 as litigation costs and to replace the faulty refrigerator with a new one.
According to the case record, the complainant, Arif, purchased the refrigerator from Clifton after the company assured him that it carried a lifetime warranty. The appliance reportedly developed technical faults within a few months of purchase.
Arif informed the court that he lodged multiple complaints with the company and allowed several repair attempts. However, the refrigerator continued to malfunction, and the company failed to replace it despite repeated assurances.
After reviewing the arguments and evidence, the court held that the company did not fulfill its warranty obligations. It ruled that the failure to replace the faulty product amounted to a violation of consumer rights and issued orders accordingly in favor of the complainant.
