OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Health, a dedicated section within ChatGPT designed for health and wellness-related questions. The new area allows users to connect third-party services and ask questions about their health in a more structured and protected environment.
ChatGPT Health supports connections with several popular platforms, including Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, Function, Weight Watchers, AllTrails, Instacart, and Peloton. Once connected, users can ask questions that reference their data from these services.
OpenAI said ChatGPT Health was developed in close collaboration with physicians and is intended to help users better understand and manage their health and wellness.
According to OpenAI, ChatGPT Health includes purpose-built encryption and data isolation to keep health-related conversations protected and separate from other chats. The company stated it will not use Health conversations to train its models. Users can also enable multi-factor authentication for additional account security.
OpenAI said internal, de-identified analysis shows that more than 230 million people worldwide already ask ChatGPT about health and wellness topics. ChatGPT Health is intended to provide a safer and more appropriate space for those interactions.
For users who want to connect medical records, OpenAI is partnering with b.well, which the company described as a large network for connected health data in the United States that follows industry standards for data security and privacy. Medical record integrations are available only in the US.
The Health experience includes a specialized model that can explain lab results in plain language, help users prepare questions for medical appointments, interpret data from wearables and wellness apps, and summarize care instructions. Users can access ChatGPT Health by selecting it from the sidebar menu within ChatGPT.
ChatGPT Health is now available to a small group of early users. The feature is not currently accessible in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, or the UK.
