Major Bidder Suddenly Leaves PSL New Teams Auction at Last Minute

In a surprise development ahead of the Pakistan Super League’s (PSL 11) expansion plans, Ali Khan Tareen has announced that he, the Tareen Khan Group, and Deharki Sugar Mills (DSM) will not participate in the PSL franchise auction being held today.

The auction for the PSL’s two new teams is scheduled for 4:15 pm at the Jinnah Convention Centre, Islamabad, and Ali Tareen had been widely seen as one of the major potential bidders for a new franchise. His decision to step back, revealed just minutes before the bidding began.

In a statement shared on social media, Tareen said the decision came after “careful consideration.” He reflected on his previous involvement in the PSL, saying his family’s time with Multan Sultans was driven by a mission bigger than cricket—representing South Punjab and giving attention to a region he believes has long been overlooked.

Tareen said that if he ever returns to PSL ownership, it would have to be for the same reason, reiterating that South Punjab remains closest to his heart. For now, he said he will be in the stands supporting the players and enjoying the tournament with fans rather than taking part in franchise bidding.

Importantly, Tareen also hinted that the door is not closed permanently. He stated that when the Multan team is put up for sale, his side will be “ready,” signalling a possible future move tied specifically to Multan rather than a fresh franchise.

He ended his message by wishing the remaining bidders well, adding a tongue-in-cheek line: “May the most outspoken owner win.”
