A three-year-old child died after falling into an open sewer in the Sumbal area of Islamabad, according to the ICT administration.
An ICT spokesperson said the incident occurred in an illegally developed settlement built on encroached land. The area had an open pit dug for sewerage purposes, which proved fatal for the child.
The spokesperson confirmed that the child fell into the sewer pit and died on the spot. Authorities have initiated legal action against those responsible for digging the pit and failing to take safety measures.
Officials said the incident highlights serious safety concerns in illegal housing developments and assured strict action against those found negligent.
