You Can Now Have a $20 Anime Waifu Sit At Your Desk

Ever thought of having your own anime waifu after watching your favourite anime? Well, now you’ve got your chance to get one because Razer has unveiled Project AVA at the 2026 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), introducing a physical AI companion designed to sit on a desk rather than live solely on a smartphone or screen.

The device uses 3D holographic display technology and currently runs on xAI’s Grok artificial intelligence. Razer has opened online reservations for the product, although it remains a concept-level device ahead of its planned release.

A Physical Take on AI Companions

Project AVA is a desk-based AI companion housed in a transparent container, projecting a three-dimensional hologram. While AI companions are not new, most have remained confined to mobile apps or screens. Razer is positioning Project AVA as a step toward physicalized AI, bringing the concept into a tangible form.

Smaller companies such as Dipal and Code27 have previously explored similar ideas, but Razer is the largest consumer technology brand so far to enter this space.

Customizable 3D Avatars

Users can choose from five holographic avatar designs. These include a stylized Razer logo as well as four humanlike characters named Kira, Zane, Faker, and Sao. Sao appears to be modeled after a Japanese influencer frequently featured by Razer. The company noted that the avatars are still under development and may change before launch.

Each Project AVA unit projects a 5.5-inch-tall hologram and uses what Razer describes as human-like vision and audio sensing to understand its surroundings and user interactions.

Features and Capabilities

According to Razer, Project AVA is designed to handle tasks such as tracking moods, managing schedules, analyzing spreadsheets, translating conversations, and providing motivational feedback. The current version relies on xAI’s Grok, though Razer said it plans to support additional AI platforms in the future.

Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan said the device is not intended to promote emotional dependency or romantic relationships, despite acknowledging that some users interact with AI in increasingly personal ways.

Availability and Pricing

Razer has not announced a final price for Project AVA. The company expects the device to ship in the second half of 2026. Interested customers can reserve a unit online with a $20 deposit.

The debut of Project AVA comes as interest in AI companions continues to grow. Companies such as Replika, xAI, and OpenAI have seen users form emotional connections with AI-driven characters, though most of these experiences remain digital.
