The Balochistan Cabinet has approved the launch of an electric bike scheme to provide affordable transportation to the general public.
The decision was taken during the 21st cabinet meeting chaired by Sarfraz Bugti. Under the approved scheme, students, working women, and government employees will receive electric bikes with a 30 percent subsidy.
He said electric bikes will be provided on easy installments to people from all walks of life. The cabinet decided that the scheme will be implemented through bank financing.
The meeting also revealed that the provincial government spends between Rs. 6 to 7 billion each year on medical treatment for around 250,000 government employees.
In response, the cabinet approved the introduction of a health insurance scheme for government employees and decided to conduct audits of advance medical payments and the Public Endowment Fund.
The cabinet further approved the expansion of the Enterprises Development Program to Gwadar, Kech, and Awaran.
The Chief Minister emphasized that public funds collected through taxes are a trust of the people and said it is unjust for the poor to face hardships while resources are spent on a privileged few.
