Punjab Announces School Reopening Date Amid Confusion

Confusion spread across Punjab after messages circulating on social media claimed changes to the ongoing winter vacation schedule for schools and colleges, prompting concerns among parents and students.

Amid the uncertainty, Rana Sikandar Hayat, the Punjab education minister, issued a brief clarification to address the claims. In a post shared on social media, he stated that schools and colleges would open according to the already announced schedule on January 12.

The clarification came after a notification began circulating online that suggested an extension in winter vacations. However, no official announcement regarding any change in the vacation schedule has been issued by the Punjab government so far.

Earlier this week, the minister also rejected similar claims, stating that school and college holidays would not be extended and advising the public to avoid fake news.

The Punjab government had previously announced winter vacations for all public and private educational institutions from December 22, 2025, to January 10, 2026, with academic activities scheduled to resume on January 12, 2026.
