Samsung’s Massively Upgraded AI-Bixby is Finally Ready to Launch Soon

When the AI surge began reshaping digital assistants, many expected Samsung to overhaul Bixby with stronger AI capabilities. That shift did not arrive with recent One UI updates, but new leaks now suggest Samsung is actively testing a more advanced version of Bixby built around modern AI tools, expected to launch as soon as One UI 8.5 comes out, which should be soon.

Screenshots shared by a Reddit user from a rooted Samsung device running One UI 8.5 reveal a redesigned Bixby assistant with expanded functionality. The images point to a significant upgrade compared with the current public version of Bixby.

Perplexity AI Upgrade

Based on the screenshots, the updated Bixby relies heavily on Perplexity AI to handle user queries. This supports earlier reports that Samsung had partnered with the AI firm. The assistant also appears to integrate with several external services, including The Weather Channel, HERE Maps, Skyscanner, and Uber.

Bixby can stay active on top of other apps, allowing users to interact with it without leaving their current screen. Users can like or dislike responses, continue conversations, and tap a Source button that redirects to Perplexity’s website or app for original references.

System Controls and Document Support

In addition to answering questions, Bixby continues to perform system-level actions such as turning Bluetooth on or off, enabling Dark Mode, and handling other basic phone settings. The assistant remembers previous conversations and supports document uploads, enabling users to discuss files using a predefined or selected style.

Samsung’s Own Alternatives to Gemini AI

The leak also suggests Samsung is developing its own versions of some features found in Google’s Gemini. Circle To Ask functions as an alternative to Circle to Search, while Bixby Live appears similar to Gemini Live. With Bixby Live, users can share their screen or camera view and discuss on-screen content or their surroundings in real time.

Although the upgraded Bixby appears close to being ready and is linked to One UI 8.5, a public release is not guaranteed. Samsung may continue internal testing before deciding whether and when the new Bixby experience will roll out to users.
