Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) said it is actively working to resolve a technical fault that caused a gas shortfall of around 30 million cubic feet per day and expects to recover the deficit within the next few days.
SSGC said gas pressure will improve once normal supply levels resume, allowing full service to return for households across Sindh and Balochistan.
A company spokesperson said an unexpected cold spell sharply increased household gas demand in both provinces, prompting emergency measures to protect domestic consumers. She said higher use of geysers and space heaters pushed overall consumption up by nearly 10 percent.
To manage the surge, SSGC diverted about 90 million cubic feet per day of reliquefied natural gas into its distribution network. However, a further drop in temperatures triggered additional demand, extending cooking hours and intensifying morning and evening usage.
The spokesperson said an upstream technical issue then reduced gas supply by around 30 million cubic feet per day, worsening the situation and lowering pressure in several tail-end localities.
In response, SSGC implemented its government-approved load management plan. The company curtailed gas supplies to fertilizer plants and enforced weekly industrial closures to prioritize household consumers.
The spokesperson said SSGC continues to prioritize domestic supply in line with federal directives. She added that the utility aims to ensure uninterrupted gas supply from 5 am to 10 pm and has deployed 24-hour teams to address low-pressure complaints across its franchise areas.

You guys already charge a lot under pud charges and with more gas usage you guys will sky rocket the bill. Where is the good news in that? Did ssgc try to reduce the useless gas charges that were never there since the creation of Pakistan and suddenly appeared to fill ssgc and it’s employees pockets by charging consumers unnecessary bills?
