The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has imposed a complete ban on the trimming, pruning, and felling of trees across Lahore and ordered its officers to strictly enforce the decision.
PHA took the step after the Lahore High Court expressed serious concern over the cutting of trees along Canal Road last week and warned that it could initiate legal proceedings against responsible PHA officials.
The court also criticized the authority for failing to impose a citywide ban on tree cutting. According to an official notification, the ban took effect immediately on the orders of PHA Managing Director Raja Mansoor Ahmed.
The notification prohibits the unauthorized cutting of any tree in Lahore. It also bars trimming, pruning, or cutting of branches without prior written approval from the competent authority, even when officials cite reasons such as clearing electric lines, ensuring public safety, or carrying out aesthetic maintenance.
PHA directed all directors, project directors, and in-charge officers to maintain heightened vigilance within their respective areas and ensure full compliance with the ban.
The authority emphasized that protecting trees remains essential for environmental conservation and the promotion of urban greenery in the city. The notification warned that PHA will take action under relevant laws and regulations against anyone found violating the ban.
