Punjab Recalls 2 Substandard Medicines From Markets

The Directorate of Drugs Control, Punjab, has issued a public alert ordering the immediate recall of substandard and adulterated medicines from the market after failed quality tests.

According to the notification, the Drug Testing Laboratories Punjab declared the listed medicines unsafe, prompting the Provincial Quality Control Board to order their recall.

Among the recalled products is Injection Neudex 1mL (Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate 4mg/mL), Registration No. 042943. Batches DX063 and DX079 (expiry October 2027) and DX080 (expiry November 2027) were declared adulterated.

The Directorate also recalled Zeesol H Infusion 1000ml (Ringer Lactate) after it failed sterility tests. The affected batch is 2503281, with an expiry date of February 2030.

Authorities have directed manufacturers to immediately withdraw the concerned batches, submit complete distribution records, upload the Recall Assessment Form on the DRAP website, conduct a detailed root cause analysis, and prepare a Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) plan.

The Drug Control Directorate has advised pharmacies, medical stores, wholesalers, distributors, and healthcare facilities to stop dispensing the recalled medicines immediately and report inventory and consumption details to their respective Drug Inspectors.

All field formations in Punjab have also been instructed to enhance supply chain surveillance and take regulatory action under the Drug Act 1976 and DRAP Act 2012 to ensure public safety.
