Karachi police are preparing to expand the e-challan system by introducing a mobile phone application that will allow traffic violations to be reported directly by officers on duty.
According to police officials, the city has already been issuing e-challans through Safe City surveillance cameras. Under the new initiative, authorities will also use a dedicated mobile application to issue fines for traffic violations observed on the road.
Officials said the special app has been developed and will soon begin operating on a trial basis. Authorized officers of the Karachi Police will download the application on their personal mobile phones.
During duty hours, if an officer witnesses a vehicle violating traffic laws, the officer will take a photograph through the app and submit it immediately. The system will automatically forward the image to the traffic police e-challaning officer.
After reviewing the violation, the traffic police officer will issue an e-challan. The challan will also include the identification details of the officer who reported the violation through the mobile application.
