Loadshedding Continues in Lahore Despite LESCO’s Claim

Despite claims by the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) that it has ended loadshedding, consumers across both urban and rural areas within the utility’s jurisdiction reported continued power outages on Thursday.

LESCO management maintained that it was observing zero loadshedding in all areas except those connected to high-loss feeders, saying the company was receiving electricity from the national grid in line with actual demand.

However, residents said they faced forced outages lasting one to two hours in urban localities and longer interruptions in rural areas. Consumers also reported reduced water supply due to the shutdown of tube wells during power cuts.

A LESCO official acknowledged that load shedding continued even in areas served by feeders classified as non-loss making.

A resident of Johar Town told Dawn that electricity outages persisted for nearly two hours on Thursday, although the duration had reduced compared to previous weeks. A Green Town resident reported two hours of load shedding, split between morning and evening.

In Kasur city, residents said power outages lasted around one and a half hours on Thursday, while rural areas of the district continued to face four to eight hours of daily load shedding. A resident of Batapur in Lahore reported power cuts lasting four to five hours a day.

Earlier this week, a LESCO spokesperson claimed the company had eliminated loadshedding except on high-loss feeders, where outages ranged from three to six hours.
