Annual Fee Increase Limit Set for Private Schools

The Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) has directed private schools not to increase annual fees beyond the prescribed limits.

Speaking after a meeting with school representatives on Friday, Acting PEIRA Chairman Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah said schools can raise fees by up to five percent annually. He said schools may seek an additional increase of up to three percent only in special cases, subject to justification through audited expenditure details.

He clarified that no school, under any circumstances, can increase fees by more than eight percent. Dr. Mallah said the authority will strictly enforce fee regulations and ensure compliance across Islamabad’s private schools.

He also said schools must provide free education to at least 10 percent of students from needy backgrounds, with priority given to children of martyrs. He urged parents to report any violations of the fee policy to PEIRA, adding that the authority will take action against schools found breaching the rules.

The acting chairman also said PEIRA plans to move against unregistered private schools operating in Islamabad. He noted that around 1,500 schools are currently registered, while many others continue to operate without registration.

The directive follows concerns raised by the National Assembly and a Senate standing committee over reports of excessive fees charged by several private schools.

  • There are many tricks such as school fund, lab fee, any kind of functions fund, medical fund, security etc

    • Do you know that school expenditures increase by approx 40% per year. And over a period of 5 years, the cost of running a schools tantamount to almost double, whereas, the revenue is increased by only 20%. This is a perfect recipe to force good quality schools to shut down or make drastic compromise on its quality. Eventually, it would be students who would suffer…not the schools. But who cares!

    • There are so many forms of BHATTA,s, schools are one of these. Look at the level education these schools are providing. Teachers are getting salary of 30k average. They just come to dance and earn this Hell of money, as govt failed in every respect from day one i.e 1947

  • Dear sir stop take extra fee for one month. If it’s increasing more then 5 percent in yearly fee. Thank you sir..

  • School are for more to yet the facilities are limited for few as not every kids use it or been teach they have too like in plays, story telling, shoes, races, why only few. Everyone need the classes have to take part n get participate medals in same colour only top three have different one or better a certified would be better
Look how much A levels courses and compare to the time teacher gives are less and they rush to cover the courses rather then help the students grows . Same for school.
I’m paying near 60-70k per month for my child in A level n results n help to get better grades are poor or low. The teachers don’t give time or help through extra classes. The school says TA will do but they are students n students will not stay more times to help those childrens
Before asking anything more. They need to fix themselves.
And worse of all getting tuition or going to tuition centre to get those help or cover what missing. Then why even send kids to school. Sent to tuition centre instead.
    They should be one system.

  • Th school I study often show higher fee on on audit like the January audit show total fee 17300 PKR

    Examination(annual): 12000
    Solar charges: 500
    Current fee: 4800
    Total: 17300

  • Education and Health are any State’s fundamental responsibilities and yet it has failed to fulfill them. Both Education and Health are being not just ignored but also pushed in the hands of the Private Sector who extract every single paisa out of your pocket. This must stop.

  • Schools in Islamabad and Rawalpindi have turned education into a business. We are seeing fee hikes twice a year often over 10%—with no prior warning. On top of that, there are hidden AC charges and ‘mandatory’ notebooks that never get used. With so many holidays, they don’t even finish the syllabus! It’s time for the government to step in and stop this exploitation of parents in the name of ‘famous’ schooling.”
