5 Major Motorways Closed Due to Fog

Dense fog has forced the National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP) to temporarily shut down key sections of five major motorways, as visibility dropped to unsafe levels across parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the latest situation update, the following stretches have been closed due to fog:

M-1 Peshawar to Rashakai
M-2 Thokar Niaz Baig to Hiran Minar
M-3 Faizpur to Jaranwala
M-4 Multan to Shorkot
M-11 Lahore to Sambrial

The advisory was issued at 8:40 PM GMT on January 18, 2026, building on earlier updates from the same day as conditions worsened and fog spread across multiple routes.

Motorway Police regularly impose such closures during winter to prevent pile-ups and serious crashes when drivers cannot see at safe braking distances. Officials have repeatedly urged commuters to avoid unnecessary night travel in foggy conditions, keep speed low, use fog lights properly, and follow official alerts until visibility improves.
