Punjab Relaxes Building Fitness Certificate Rules for Private Schools

The Punjab School Education Department has eased its building fitness certificate policy for private schools, offering significant regulatory relief to educational institutions across the province.

What Has Changed

Private schools can now obtain a building fitness certificate from any engineer or firm registered with the Pakistan Engineering Council. Previously, schools were required to secure the certificate exclusively from the provincial Communication and Works (C&W) department.

The department has approved this alternative option, relaxing the earlier C&W-only condition.

Why It Matters

CEO Education Tariq Mahmood stated that a building fitness certificate remains mandatory for the school registration process. He emphasised that new safety arrangements are essential to protect both students and staff.

Mahmood urged private educational institutions across Lahore and the rest of Punjab to obtain their fitness certificates without delay.

Who Can Now Issue the Certificate

Under the revised policy, a building fitness certificate can also be issued by a civil engineer registered with the Pakistan Engineering Council. The School Education Department has directed all district registration authorities to ensure compliance with the new orders.
