KP Adds New Compulsory Subject at School Level

In an official notice, the Office of the District Education Officer (Male), Nowshera has directed all relevant government schools to ensure Pashto is taught as a subject, reiterating that it is compulsory up to second year in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The notice, addressed to principals/headmasters of government high and middle schools (GHSS, GHS, GMS) and SDEOs in Pabbi, Nowshera and Jahangira, references earlier letters from the Elementary & Secondary Education Department regarding province-wide implementation of Pashto in government schools.

The DEO’s office instructed school heads to ensure the subject is being taught across classes and warned that in case of non-compliance, the head of the institution and the concerned education officials could be held responsible for any adverse consequences.

The move signals stricter enforcement of the existing policy on regional language education in KP’s government schools.
