A message circulating widely on WhatsApp groups and social media platforms in Pakistan claims that residents of Punjab can apply for a driving license online without appearing for a driving test through a website named dastakpunjab.online.
The message includes a graphic stating that applicants can submit their details and pay the required fee through Easypaisa or JazzCash to obtain a driving license.
According to the viral content, the online facility is being offered under a “Driving License Management System” and is described as part of the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The message further claims that applicants using the provided link will not be required to undergo a physical driving test.
However, officials confirmed that dastakpunjab.online has no connection with the Punjab government or the traffic police. They clarified that the official platform for driving license related services, including learner licenses, renewals, and duplicate licenses, is dastak.punjab.govt.pk, which operates under a government domain.
Punjab Traffic Police spokesperson Muhammad Usman Qureshi said the department had already flagged the website as fraudulent. He explained that first time driving license applicants must physically visit traffic police centers for biometric verification, photographs, video recording, and driving tests, and that this process cannot be completed entirely online.
Digital security experts warned that such websites often collect sensitive personal and financial information, including identity documents and payment details, and are commonly used for online fraud and identity theft.
