CDA Takes Action Against Private Developers for Cutting Trees in Islamabad

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Tuesday took action against alleged illegal encroachment of forest land in Islamabad’s Bhara Kahu area, halting land development after reports of tree cutting.

According to the CDA, its environment wing moved swiftly after receiving information about the chopping of trees in the reserved forest land (RF-8).

Officials found that private developers had cleared and levelled over 10 kanals of forest land after cutting dozens of trees.

CDA spokesperson Shahid Kiani said the authority confiscated machinery used at the site and imposed a fine of Rs7 million for cutting around 40 trees and more than 100 shrubs.

He added that the operation was immediately stopped.

A case has been filed before the CDA magistrate for recovery of the fine and legal action over tree cutting and damage to landscaping. An FIR has also been registered at the Bhara Kahu police station.

“We are committed to protecting Islamabad’s greenery, and strict action will be taken against anyone involved in illegal tree cutting,” Kiani said.

He added that CDA efforts have contributed to an overall increase in the capital’s green cover.

Officials said the CDA maintains detailed forest records dating back to 1902 and 1935, clearly demarcating all forest areas. According to these records, the affected land falls within RF-8 Bhara Kahu.

The CDA also confirmed that plantation activities are ongoing and will be expanded next month as part of its broader afforestation drive.

  • CDA very prompt to take action against private developers. However, these actions are very selective depending on the size and strength of the violators. Who is going to take action against CDA’s own violations is a big question.
