A committee set up on the directives of the Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court has recommended a standardized academic calendar requiring schools and colleges across Punjab to complete 190 teaching days each year.
As part of the proposal, the committee suggested cutting summer vacations from the current two and a half months to a shorter period of six weeks. The committee convened three times over the last four months and finalized its recommendations during the third meeting.
Under the proposed plan, educational institutions in the province would observe 175 holidays annually, while the number of academic and instructional days would remain fixed at 190. Private school associations across Punjab have endorsed the proposal.
Following the recommendations, Punjab School Education Department Special Secretary Muhammad Iqbal directed PECTA and the Director Public Instruction for Secondary and Elementary education to prepare a uniform academic calendar within three days.
The committee observed that the growing number of holidays each year has negatively affected academic performance, particularly in senior classes where course syllabi often remain unfinished.
Justice Jawad Hassan constituted the committee while hearing a writ petition at the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench that challenged the increase in holidays in Punjab’s educational institutions. The committee’s third meeting took place in Lahore under the chairmanship of the secretary schools education and was presided over by Special Secretary Muhammad Iqbal.
Why should the kids start to faint in summers because you could not make proper decisions regarding winter holidays even when weather can be predictable by using weather technology.

Syllabus should be according to age of students, in govt schools even subject Urdu of class one contains so much lessons that are useless for students because at that age kids must have to learn how to read not such a big lessons that students can’t read …. So government should also have a look on the syllabus that should be according to age of students…
Should summer break according to our country weather not according to other countries schedule. In Pak summer break should in peak summer July till September when raining season on peak.

Over the last many decades authorities fail to decide acadamic year calander due to negligance.
Weather forecast departments on every season give clear forecast of how winter and summer are going to be, yet we as islamic republic want to follow cristian holidays in winter.
In summer especially punjab region have hot waves during May Jun and till second week of July until monsoon reaches. still we are folowing summer vacation from mid of jun till mid of Aug. when super heat waves is at its peak we keep school open. While during monsoon rain school remain close of summer.
And what about the heat waves, these hottest days can little ones bear?

idiots. i have been a teacher of classes 9 and 10 and know how the schools and academies force the teachers to finish the syllabus by october end or november end. No one needs to understand anything but must go 4 months of daily board-exams-style tests. Syllabus is not the issue, it’s just justifying the high fees
