Punjab Spends Rs. 110 Million on Bike Safety Rods Ahead of Basant

Basant preparations are in full swing as authorities in Punjab continue distributing 1,000,000 safety rods among motorcyclists through 100 designated safety points across the city, according to a local TV report.

Officials said the city has been divided into three operational zones to manage movement and safety during the festival, with spending on the safety-rod initiative crossing Rs. 110 million.

As part of the plan, multiple neighborhoods have been categorized based on sensitivity and crowd pressure. Reports say 48 localities in Walled City Lahore have been marked as Red Zones, 32 areas of Ichhra as Yellow Zones, and 20 areas of Liberty as Green Zones.

To enforce safety measures and manage traffic flow, around 100 road safety camps have been set up on roads within these zones. Teams from the district administration, traffic police, and rescue services will remain deployed at these points to oversee compliance and respond to emergencies.

Authorities have also tightened rules for two-wheelers, with reports stating that motorcycles and loader rickshaws will not be allowed on the roads without helmets.

In addition, the Punjab government is introducing a free shuttle service for intercity commuters during Basant. The service will operate from Muridke, Sharaqpur, Raiwind, and Manga Mandi to Thokar Niaz Baig, and from Kasur to Chungi Amar Sidhu.

Officials said a total of 695 buses will be used to run the free shuttle service across Lahore to reduce traffic pressure and support safer travel during the festival period.
