Ronchi is a former international cricketer who played as a powerful right-handed wicketkeeper-batsman for both New Zealand and Australia during his professional playing career.

He was a key figure for Islamabad United during his time with the team as a player, particularly in the 2018 PSL season when he topped the batting charts with 435 runs and was named player of the tournament as United claimed their second PSL title.

In that 2018 season, Ronchi’s explosive batting included one of the fastest half-centuries in PSL history and played a major role in United’s championship run.

The 44-year-old scored also 1,020 runs in 31 PSL matches, with a strike rate of 166.12 and 10 half-centuries.

Islamabad United’s decision to bring Ronchi into the coaching role follows a period of strong recent performance, including winning the 2024 PSL final against Multan Sultans to secure their third tournament crown.

Islamabad United is recognized as one of the most successful franchise in PSL history, having won three titles in 2016, 2018, and 2024, with strong performances throughout the league’s nine seasons.
