Scotland Announce T20 World Cup Squad

Cricket Scotland has announced its 15-member squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which will be held in India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.

Experienced top-order batter Richie Berrington will captain the European side in the 20-team tournament. The squad includes 11 players who featured in the previous edition of the T20 World Cup, held in the West Indies and the USA in 2024.

Tom Bruce, Finlay McCreath, and Oliver Davidson have been named in a World Cup squad for the first time. Afghanistan-born pacer Zainullah Ihsan has also received his maiden call-up after recently qualifying to represent Scotland.

In addition to the main squad, Scotland also named two traveling reserves for the tournament; Jasper Davidson and Jack Jarvis. Three players; Mackenzie Jones, Chris McBride, and Charlie Tear were named as non-traveling reserves.

Cricket Scotland confirmed that the selection remains subject to all player and staff visa approvals, as the team received a late entry into the tournament after replacing Bangladesh.

Earlier this month, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) formally requested the ICC to shift Bangladesh’s matches from India to Sri Lanka.

The request came after Indian Premier League franchise Kolkata Knight Riders released pacer Mustafizur Rahman from their squad on the direction of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The ICC and BCB held several rounds of discussions, but no agreement was reached. Earlier this week, the ICC rejected Bangladesh’s request, stating that the tournament schedule would remain unchanged and issuing the board a 24-hour ultimatum.

Bangladesh maintained its position and was eventually removed from the competition. The ICC cited the absence of any “credible or verifiable” security threat as the reason for dismissing the plea, with Scotland replacing Bangladesh in Group C of the tournament.

Scotland will begin their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign against West Indies on February 7 in Kolkata. They will then face Italy on February 9 and England on February 14 in their remaining group-stage matches at the same venue.

The team will later travel to Mumbai, where they will play Nepal in their final group-stage match on February 17.
