An important development has emerged regarding Grade 8 board examinations in Punjab, as the Punjab Examination Commission (PECTA) faces a severe shortage of funds.
According to official sources, PECTA is considering conducting exams for only four subjects due to limited financial resources. Under the initial proposal, students will appear in Urdu, English, Mathematics, and Science only.
Sources said PECTA requires nearly Rs1 billion to conduct the examinations transparently across the province.
However, due to budget constraints, the commission is unable to manage the full examination process and has started consultations with the Punjab government to secure the required funds.
Officials revealed that around 50,000 invigilators will be needed for the Grade 8 board exams. The invigilators will receive daily remuneration for assessment duties.
To simplify the process, students will not be required to submit admission forms. All students registered on the School Information System (SIS) will automatically receive their roll number slips.
Sources added that more than one million students across Punjab are registered for the Grade 8 examinations. A final decision regarding the exam structure and subjects is expected soon.
