Lahore Allocates 10 School Rooftops for Safe Basant Celebrations

The Lahore administration has allotted the rooftops of 10 government schools in the Walled City for the celebration of the traditional Basant Festival 2026, as part of efforts to ensure a safe and well-regulated event.

According to officials, the Education Authority Lahore has submitted a report to the School Education Department confirming the selected schools.

These include Government High Schools at Bhati Gate, Delhi Gate, Syed Mitha Bazaar, Shah Alam Gate, Government Victoria Girls High School, and schools located in Takia Sadhwan, Kabuli Mill, and Choona Mandi.

School vigilance staff have been directed to remain on duty round the clock during the three-day festival, while the Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioners will conduct inspections to review safety and administrative arrangements.

Authorities warned that school heads would be held responsible if preparations were found unsatisfactory.

To maintain law and order, the Lahore administration has imposed Section 144 across the city.

The order bans kites displaying images of holy books, religious sites, public figures, national flags, or political party symbols to preserve religious harmony and public safety.

The Punjab government has granted conditional approval for Basant celebrations from February 6 to 8, under the Punjab Kite-Flying Act 2025.

The Deputy Commissioner Lahore has formally issued the Basant 2026 notification.

Authorities have also planned extensive safety measures, including the installation of safety nets and wire-protection systems on major roads, to prevent accidents.

Officials reiterated that Basant will be allowed only under strict safety compliance to ensure a secure and festive environment for residents.
