The excitement around Basant in Lahore is fading as a shortage of kite-flying materials continues, and the online permit system remains non-functional.
The delay has raised concerns among traders and kite-flying enthusiasts ahead of the seasonal celebrations.
Sources say the supply of kites, spools, and string remains limited across Lahore, while licensed dealers are still waiting for the launch of the online permit system.
Although the district administration has set up a portal, permit application forms have yet to be uploaded, causing serious difficulties for businesses.
Officials say license holders will be able to import kite-flying materials from other cities once they obtain online permits. However, the ongoing delay is expected to further increase the prices of kites, spools, and string.
The Kite Flying Association warned that if materials are not made available on time, the traditional charm of Basant will be severely affected.
The association has urged authorities to issue permits immediately.
It is worth noting that the district administration recently allowed the transportation of kite-flying materials from other cities, but the permit system remains inactive in practice.
