The Sindh government has increased flour prices ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, further adding to the financial burden on citizens already struggling with high inflation.
According to official notifications, the retail price of flour has been raised by Rs. 8 per kilogram, setting the new rate at Rs. 107 per kg. As a result, a 10-kg flour bag will now sell for Rs. 1,070.
The decision was formally announced by the Commissioner Karachi, and the revised prices have taken effect immediately.
The notification also states that the ex-mill price of flour has been fixed at Rs. 104 per kg, while a 10-kg ex-mill bag will cost Rs. 1,040. Overall, the price of a 10-kg bag has increased by Rs. 80.
In December 2025, the official price of flour was fixed at Rs. 99 per kg. However, authorities have failed to ensure the availability of flour at government-set rates across Karachi. Consumers report that flour is not being sold at official prices in retail markets.
Instead, shopkeepers are selling flour at Rs. 125 per kg, with a 10-kg bag priced at Rs. 1,250. Chaki flour is being sold at Rs. 140 per kg in various parts of the city.
The increase in flour prices has sparked public concern ahead of Ramadan, as flour remains a staple food item for households across Sindh. Rising flour costs are making basic food items like roti increasingly unaffordable for poor communities across Pakistan.
