Punjab to Launch Drone Squad for Crime Monitoring and Traffic Management

The Punjab government has approved the formation of a drone squad across the province, including Lahore, to enhance law enforcement, surveillance, and public safety.

According to police officials, 159 advanced night-vision drones will be procured for provincial deployment. Lahore will receive 20 drones equipped with night-vision cameras, while 98 drones are allocated to various tehsils and 41 to district-level operations.

The drones will monitor crime hotspots, manage traffic, detect illegal encroachments, and help prevent accidents. Trained personnel will operate the drones, ensuring efficient surveillance across Punjab.

The drone squad will operate under the Safe Cities Authority and integrate with the live monitoring Safe Cities System. Officials said the project has secured government funding, with procurement expected to be completed within the current fiscal year, strengthening public security and civic management.
