Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Siddique Kamyana announced on Wednesday that motorcyclists will be fined from February 1 if caught riding without safety rods.
The announcement was made at a Town Hall ceremony launching the installation of safety rods and a public awareness campaign under the “Safe Basant” initiative.
The event, held jointly with Lahore Commissioner Maryam Khan, was attended by senior officials including CTO Athar Waheed, Deputy Commissioner (retired) Capt Ali Ijaz, and representatives from Rescue 1122, LDA, PHA, health, and education departments.
Under the initiative, one million motorcycles will be fitted with safety rods free of cost, and awareness pamphlets were distributed to citizens. Kamyana also reiterated a zero-tolerance policy for aerial firing and said strict legal action would be taken against violators.
He shared enforcement details for illegal kite flying this month, reporting 1,078 cases, 1,115 arrests, and the seizure of over 40,000 kites and 926 spools. Kite flying will only be permitted on February 6, 7, and 8, with strict action against violations on other days.
Parents or guardians of children involved in illegal kite flying will also face legal action. The CCPO said round-the-clock monitoring would be carried out during Basant using CCTV cameras and drones, and he urged the media to promote safe celebrations.
