The authorities have installed floodlights at Imran Khan Stadium in Peshawar, completing a major infrastructure upgrade and making the venue fully ready to host competitive cricket matches.
With the installation finished, the stadium is now set to host upcoming domestic tournaments, including matches of the National T20 Cup.
The addition of modern LED floodlights allows the venue to host night matches for the first time. Combined with its 25,000 seating capacity, curved roof structure, and well-maintained playing surface, the upgrade marks a key step in reviving a stadium that remained underused for several years.
While the stadium is now match-ready, its inclusion in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) remains unresolved.

In late 2025, PSL CEO Salman Naseer had indicated that Peshawar’s Imran Khan Stadium, formerly known as Arbab Niaz Stadium, was under consideration as one of six potential PSL venues. At the time, discussions included Peshawar alongside Faisalabad as possible additions.
Naseer had stated that the stadium was “almost ready” but still required minor upgrades to meet international standards. He also confirmed that inspections had been carried out and that only limited work remained before PSL-level cricket could be hosted.
However, despite those earlier discussions, final venue confirmations later dropped Peshawar from the PSL list, leaving Faisalabad as the preferred additional option. As a result, Imran Khan Stadium did not make the final cut for hosting PSL matches.
Even so, the completion of floodlights and readiness to host domestic tournaments is seen as a positive development for cricket in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, keeping hopes alive that the venue could be considered for top-tier events in the future.
