A major wheat scandal has surfaced in Sindh after authorities discovered that 64,000 wheat sacks were missing from the Bolhari warehouse in Jamshoro district, prompting an anti-corruption investigation.
According to officials, the Anti-Corruption Department registered a case against three employees and launched an inquiry into the disappearance.
Meanwhile, officials within the Food Department have begun blaming one another for the incident.
Former warehouse in-charge Ali Raza Brohi has been accused of demanding bribes, while Deputy Director of Food Qamar-ud-Din Memon also faces allegations of seeking millions of rupees in kickbacks.
This marks another instance of wheat stock irregularities in Sindh. In 2024, around 47,000 wheat sacks worth Rs800 million went missing from a government warehouse in Khairpur, leading to the suspension of three food department officials.
Similarly, in 2022, thousands of metric tons of wheat reportedly disappeared from government warehouses in Naushehro Feroze.
Authorities say investigations are underway, and further action is expected against those found responsible.
