K-Electric CEO Moonis Alvi Resigns

K-Electric has formally disclosed that Syed Moonis Abdullah Alvi has tendered his resignation as Chief Executive Officer, according to a material information filing dated February 6, 2026, submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange and the regulator.

The development comes after a prolonged controversy linked to harassment allegations raised by a former senior employee of the power utility.

According to a report, Alvi had been under mental stress for several months following accusations by K-Electric’s former chief marketing and communications officer, who alleged harassment, intimidation, mental agony, threats, and the creation of a hostile work environment by Alvi and others.

Alvi joined K-Electric in 2008 and held several senior positions, including chief financial officer, company secretary, and head of treasury, before being appointed CEO in 2018. During his tenure, he led multiple corporate initiatives, including the Roshani Baji programme, and frequently represented the company publicly.

The matter was taken up by the Sindh High Oversight Authority headed by retired Justice Shah Nawaz Tariq, which initially ordered Alvi’s removal and imposed a fine of Rs. 2.5 million. Alvi denied the allegations and said he would challenge the decision.

Subsequently, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori overturned the provincial order issued on July 31, 2025, citing that key evidence had been ignored. According to the governor’s order, the complainant had not submitted a written complaint before K-Electric’s relevant committee or any other authority, and the chat record produced as evidence did not substantiate several of the allegations.

The order also noted Alvi’s stance that the employee was asked to resign by the board’s HR committee due to poor performance, while the complainant maintained that her removal was linked to the harassment claims.

In its filing, K-Electric did not disclose further details regarding the reasons for Alvi’s resignation or the company’s transition plan.
