The Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) has decided to deploy advanced unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to monitor and support search and rescue operations for fishing boats and ships involved in sea accidents.
Officials said the high-speed drones, equipped with advanced cameras and sensors, will help track incidents caused by rough seas, strong winds, and high waves while transmitting real-time footage to rescue teams.
The UAVs will be capable of monitoring incidents up to 200 nautical miles (around 360 kilometres) offshore and guiding rescue teams during emergency operations.
The drones will also be used to deliver life-saving jackets and floating rescue equipment to people stranded at sea.
Deputy Director General PMSA, Commodore Syed Nauman Ali Baig, said the drones will significantly improve response time and operational efficiency in maritime emergencies.
The new unmanned aerial systems are expected to join PMSA’s operational fleet by the end of this year, enhancing Pakistan’s maritime safety and rescue capabilities.
