Pakistan’s opening match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 will be free to watch for the public as the tournament gets underway in Colombo on Saturday.
The inaugural fixture, Pakistan vs the Netherlands, is scheduled to be played at the SSC Grounds, Colombo, and officials have confirmed that fans will not need tickets to enter the venue. Gates No. 5 and 7 will be opened for spectators from 9:30 AM, while the match is set to begin at 11:00 AM.
While fans may get a free seat in the stands, the weather could still have its say in the highly anticipated opener.
Forecasts for match day indicate cloudy conditions throughout, with the risk of rain increasing as the day moves on. The morning is expected to remain mostly steady despite heavy cloud cover, with temperatures around 31°C and high humidity.
Winds are expected from the southeast at roughly 11 km/h, with stronger gusts possible. Rain is not expected early on, but the outlook becomes less certain later in the day.
By evening, forecasters are predicting scattered showers and a much higher chance of precipitation, with the probability rising to over 80%. Conditions could also turn more uncomfortable due to humidity, while stronger winds and reduced visibility may increase the chances of disruptions.
Weather has already impacted Pakistan’s preparations. Their only warm-up match against Ireland earlier this week was abandoned before the toss, keeping conditions firmly in focus ahead of the tournament opener.
The Sinhalese Sports Club Ground will also host Pakistan’s remaining group-stage fixtures of the T20 World Cup 2026, with the Men in Green set to face the USA on February 10 and Namibia on February 18.
