PM Shehbaz Announces $1 Billion Investment in AI

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a major national initiative to invest $1 billion in artificial intelligence by 2030, aiming to build a future ready AI ecosystem across Pakistan’s economy and education system.

Speaking at the inauguration of Indus AI Week in Islamabad, the premier said this investment plan will help the country develop its technological infrastructure and position Pakistan as a serious player in AI development.

The government intends to introduce an AI curriculum not just in federally controlled schools but across Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and remote areas of Balochistan to prepare youth for leadership roles in the digital economy.

As part of the long term strategy, the prime minister also announced that the government will award 1,000 fully funded PhD scholarships in AI by 2030 to students nationwide, aimed at building research capacity and world class expertise.

In addition, Pakistan plans to launch a nationwide programme to train one million non IT professionals in AI skills, helping broaden access to technology training and improve livelihoods in diverse sectors.

Prime Minister Shehbaz said Pakistan is ready to compete globally in the field of artificial intelligence and will work with partners domestically and internationally to achieve its AI objectives.
