Teachers from across Punjab, under the banner of the Punjab Teachers Union, staged a sit-in at Secretariat Chowk, vowing to continue the protest until their demands are accepted. A large number of female teachers also joined the demonstration.
Protesters demanded the regularization of contract employees and the restoration of the previous notification regarding leave encashment. They also called for reinstating the old family pension rules.
The teachers further urged the government to restore pension and leave encashment benefits after retirement and immediately reinstate Rule 17-A to regularise contract employees.
Union representatives said the sit-in would continue until concrete action is taken on their demands.
