43-Year-Old Oman Batter Equals Rizwan’s T20 World Cup Record

Oman cricketer Mohammad Nadeem made history in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, becoming the oldest player to score a half-century in the tournament.

The 43-year-old also equaled the record for the slowest fifty in T20 World Cup history.

The milestone came during Oman’s match against Sri Lanka on Thursday. Sri Lanka posted 225 for 5 in their allotted overs. In response, Oman managed 120 for 9 and lost the match by 105 runs.

Despite the defeat, Mohammad Nadeem delivered a notable performance while chasing the target. He scored an unbeaten 53 runs and reached his half-century off 52 balls, equaling the record for the slowest fifty in T20 World Cup history.

The record was previously set in the 2024 T20 World Cup by Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan, who also scored a fifty off 52 balls against Canada.

With this innings, Nadeem became the oldest player ever to score a half-century in T20 World Cup history. At 43 years and 161 days old, he surpassed Sri Lanka’s current coach Sanath Jayasuriya, who was 39 years and 345 days old when he scored 81 runs against the West Indies in the 2009 T20 World Cup.

Although Oman fell short in the match, Nadeem’s record-breaking knock ensured his name will be remembered in the tournament’s history.
