Islamabad to Get Citywide Digital Map Under New CDA Plan

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to develop a complete digital map of Islamabad with the help of SUPARCO and the Survey of Pakistan.

The project will create a modern GIS-based digital map system covering the entire Islamabad Capital Territory. It will include a digital basemap, online geospatial portals, and a decision support system to improve city planning, land management, and public services.

The decision was taken during the first CDA Board meeting of 2026, held at CDA headquarters and chaired by Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa.

Board members present included Talat Mehmood (Administration), Tahir Naeem (Finance), Syed Nafasat Raza (Engineering), Esfandyar Baloch (Environment), and Dr. Khalid Hafiz (Planning and Design), along with other senior officers. The Vice Chancellor of the University of the Punjab, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali, joined the meeting via Zoom.

During the meeting, the Board approved a new plot for Lawyers’ Chambers and a multi-storey parking plaza next to the lower courts. The new site replaces an earlier allotted location and was approved at the request of the Ministry of Law and Justice.

The CDA also approved a plot for the Pakistan Engineering Council. In addition, members discussed a request to provide land for a Field Audit Office Complex in the Mauve Area.

The Board reviewed the feasibility study and detailed design of the Shahdara Dam Project, including plans for a water treatment plant and water supply lines to meet Islamabad’s growing water needs.

The meeting also approved hiring a government or state-owned consultant to assess and upgrade fire detection, fire suppression, life safety, and HVAC systems in the Supreme Court building.
